Can Camping Chairs Get Wet?
Yes, camping chairs do get wet whether it’s because of rain or during cleaning. But if you get a good–quality chair, you won’t have to deal with the puddling of rainwater on the seats. A good camping chair will also be pretty easy to clean.
What is A Good Camping Chair?
Camping chairs are usually foldable chairs that you can take on your weekend trips. It might not be a topic of interest, but getting the right camping chair is quite important. And if you do decide to cheap out, you might want to end up sitting on the ground.
A good camping chair will have an armrest, legs, and a backrest. You can fold it into a flat structure and throw it in the back. You’ll find many types of camping chairs on the market; some are minimal, while others are commonly known as elaborate chairs.
The minimal chairs tend to keep things simple, and they serve their purpose of letting you sit on it. Some other camping chairs come packed with everything but the kitchen sink! You’ll even see some that have a storage area on the bottom.
How to Choose a Good Camping Chair?
The designers that are assigned the task of making camping chairs have been running pretty rampant. They have started to incorporate many features into this simple product to set up different unique selling points. So what should you look for while buying a camping chair?
Before you go on to buy a chair for your upcoming camping trip, you should consider the following things:
1. Use–case Scenarios:
First, think about why you’re going to buy a camping chair. Your choices will differ depending on whether you’re going camping or backpacking.
You better prioritize comfort if you’re going camping. But if you’re backpacking, you should be better off with a chair that will come in with a few extra pounds.
The size of camping chairs differs a lot from brand to brand. If you want to sit and handle your chair easily, get a bigger one. If you want to prioritize portability, then opt for a smaller one even though you’ll be compromising comfort.
This is something a lot of people don’t take into consideration, but they should. How well your camping chair is designed matters a lot when it comes to your preference. The modern minimalistic chairs aren’t for everyone. So try out different designs to see which one you like.
How Do You Clean Camping Chairs?
Whether you’re returning from a camping trip or you want to keep things tidy, you better follow a few steps before downright spraying your chair with a hose. As most of these chairs are made from synthetic fabric, you should clean them regularly.
If you go on a trip every other month, you better regularly clean your chair so that it can last you a while. Not everyone can afford to keep dishing out money for an appliance like this over and over again.
You can easily wash the chair by following a few neat tricks. Here they are:
For Chairs with Removable Canvases
If your chair has a removable canvas, gently detach it from the chair frame.
Take a brush and start scrubbing off the loose dirt from the canvas.
Throw the canvas into the washing machine and select the settings according to the tag.
Spray the metal frame with a hose until squeaky clean. Dry them off and put them back together.
For Non–Removable Canvases
If your camping chair does not have a removable canvas, you have to brush off the loose debris with a dry brush.
Take a bucket and combine liquid detergent with warm water. This solution will be used to clean the canvas.
Take a sponge and dip t in the bucket. Now wipe off the dirty places of the chair with the sponge. It would help if you were gentle while scrubbing.
Spray the chair with a hose to wash off the excess detergent liquid. Let it dry, and you’ll be left with a pretty clean camping chair.
How Do I Clean Mold and Mildew Out of Camp Chairs?
All fabric-based camping gear needs extra care because they are prone to mold and mildew. Even if you can’t tell that god awful smell apart, you better double-check before you keep it stashed for another couple of months.
Mold or mildew can easily grow if you don’t clean your camping chairs after a trip and throw them into the corner of your garage. Almost all campers only clean the tent after returning from a rain-soaked camping adventure. The chairs are almost always ignored.
If mold and mildew start to build up, and you decide not to do anything about it, you might as well render your chairs useless after that trip. But if you do want to clean these properly, we’ve got you covered.
If you didn’t follow the above steps before stashing your drenched chairs, you’re your garage; you need this! We’re going to show you a couple of ways to clean out mold and mildew that grew on your camping chairs.
Try Using the Power of the Sun
A lot of people come with questions like, what if we damage the chairs while cleaning? Can camping chairs get wet? Well, for those of you who don’t want to get the chairs wet, you can allow the natural sunlight to weaken the molds.
It would be best if you did this as soon as you start seeing strands of mold or mildew. Please take out the chairs from their damp habitat and bring them out in the sun. Exposing the moldy parts to direct sunlight will significantly weaken them.
Leave the chairs out in the sun for about 4 to 6 hours. The rays of the sun, especially UV rays, significantly weaken the mold. They stop reproducing and don’t spread. You can later wipe off the moldy parts with a towel dipped in warm water.
Can I Clean Drenched Chairs with Steam?
You absolutely can! We recommend using steam to wipe off the mildew and mold. This process is indeed faster than others. If you have a handheld steamer, your task will be a piece of cake.
Just warm the water up to the recommended temperature and hold the nozzle against the fabric. Concentrate on the mold and mildew affected areas first. You have to clean the metal frame too.
A lot of people don’t want to use water to clean them. Steam cleaning is pretty effective, and if you happen to own a handheld steamer, you’re quite lucky. But you can use a normal steamer if your fabric is removable.
Using Vinegar to Remove Mold
Another very effective way to wipe off mold and mildew from camping chairs is vinegar. Vinegar has proven to be quite the invention and its available in every household. What’s more amazing is that you can use vinegar to clean off items, in this case, your moldy camping chair.
Pour your vinegar into a spray bottle and spray it onto the moldy areas. Take a sponge and scrub in the vinegar into the affected parts. After you’re done, let the chairs sit for 20 minutes.
You’ll be pretty much done at this point. But you have to worry about the smell of vinegar now instead of mold. So mix up water and detergent and follow our cleaning steps mentioned in the first part and you’ll be good to go!
Our last method of wiping off those pesky molds from your camping chairs is to use alcohol. This is pretty much the same system as the vinegar method. But you’ll have to add rubbing alcohol with water to lower the concentration.
Camping chairs are one of the most important things when it comes to camping trips. But bad weather can ruin your trip anytime, and it can also lead to causing long term damage to your camping chairs. That’s why you need to clean them after returning to prevent the formation of mold.
And if you already have to deal with mold, follow our guide to wiping off mold and mildew. To conclude, these are the ways you can take proper care of your camping chair. And as for the question, “can camping chairs get wet?”, we hope you got your answer!
